One HOT Day!

United Jewish Appeal of Greater Toronto's
Hands on Toronto, Impact Toronto and Community Connect present:
One HOT Day

One HOT Day is your opportunity to get together with other Impact Toronto (ages 25-40) volunteers to meet, have fun and do Mitzvot all across our community. We're very excited to have so many projects for our volunteers to choose from on June 12th.

1. JumpStart

Location: 4600 Bathurst Street, Lipa Green Centre

Time: 10am to 12:30pm

JIAS Toronto supports and integrates new immigrants to Canada. JumpStart is a program of JIAS Toronto that serves to connect Jewish professionals to meaningful employment. Come out and lend your invaluable knowledge of the Canadian workplace to these newcomers through a fun and interesting workshop, including ice breakers, employment skills development and job interview preparation.

2. Just A Second Shop (Jewish Family & Child)

Location: 4117 Bathurst Street (and York Downs)

Time: 1pm to 3pm

Just A Second Shop is a consignment store, made possible through various private and corporate donations of personal and home décor items, books and supplies. Come help sort through and organize donations throughout the shop.

3. Corporate Connections (JVS)

Location: 74 Tycos Drive (Dufferin and Glencairn)

Time: 11am to 2:30pm

Jewish Vocational Services is seeking volunteers from the communications and technology professions for this volunteer opportunity. Have a 10 minute conversation with a JVS client in a speed mentoring session. Help with career oriented professionals seeking advice and guidance from those in the field.

4. Roof Top Gardening: Kehilla Residential Programme

Location: 262 Ridley Boulevard (Ridley is off of Wilson Avenue just west of Avenue Road)

Time: 10:30am to 12:30pm

Kehilla Residential Programme identifies and champions affordable housing in the Greater Toronto Area and implements housing initiatives for the Jewish community. The Agency's mandate is fulfilled through community capacity building, research and education, project sponsorship, and development consultation. Come help beautify the gardens at the Kehilla Residential Program! We will be spending the morning tidying up, weeding and perhaps planting flowers and vegetable plants in our street level and roof-top gardens. Please bring gardening gloves and/or any gardening tools (spades, shovels, etc.) for your own use if you've got them. Rain or Shine!

5. Reena Sunday Friends Club

Location: Whittaker, Cedar Springs, Clifton

Time: 12:30pm to 3:30pm

Reena is a non-profit social service agency in the community dedicated to integrating individuals with developmental disabilities into the mainstream of society. Visit and participate in social/recreational activities with Reena clients aged 7-25! Help Out! Get to know a new friend!

6. UJA Thank-A-Thon

Location: 4600 Bathurst Street, Lipa Green Centre

Time: 6pm to 9pm

Come out and be a part of the first ever United Jewish Appeal of Greater Toronto's Thank-A-Thon. While the Annual Telethons focus on raising funds from the community, volunteers for the Thank-A-Thon will be making the much appreciated thank you call to donors to the 2011 Annual Campaign. Training and food will be provided.

7. Zareinu 14th Annual Moveathon Festival

Location: Downsview Park (Volunteers check in near festival entrance, John Drury Dr., off Sheppard between Allen Rd. and Keele St.)

Time: Your choice of shifts from 6:30am-11:00am, 10:30am-2:30pm, 2:30pm-6pm, All Day (6am-6pm) or any combination!

Come out and volunteer at the 14th Annual Zareinu Moveathon, an extraordinary ride, run, walk and family entertainment event that includes music, carnival rides, games, performers, food and much more! It's the largest annual fundraising event for the Zareinu Educational Centre. This year, we require 150+ enthusiastic volunteers to participate in any of the following positions: Ticket sellers, marshals, rides & games, food court, prizes, raffle sellers, animal costume dressers, route stops, info booth, etc.

Community Wide Projects:

8. BOOST

Location: 890 Yonge St. 11th Floor (Yonge and Church) - (meet in the lobby)

Time: 9:30am to 12pm

BOOST is committed to eliminating abuse and violence in the lives of children, youth and their families. The centre is a registered charity and provides programs and services to children, youth, and their families in Toronto and surrounding areas. BOOST is dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and violence through education and awareness, and to collaborating with our community partners to provide services to children, youth, and their families. Volunteer with BOOST by assembling invitations for one of their major events. Once you complete the invites, get ready to work on assembling kits for children in the prevention program.

9. Miles Nadal JCC - Festival on Bloor

Location: Along Bloor Street from Spadina Avenue to Bathurst Street

Festival on Bloor is a summer street festival, which offers a fantastic opportunity for the neighbourhood to gather and celebrate their unique local heritage. The music and displays reflect the community's multicultural representation. Festival on Bloor is primarily a family event and includes adult, youth and children's activities and entertainment. Attractions will include over 70 crafts, local businesses and specialty food vendors, live music on the main stage, hosted by Tranzac and CIUT, theatre performers from The Fringe Toronto, The Imbayakunas (flute performers), the amazing Fire Guy, a juggler with lots of "hot" tricks, MNJCC Fitness demonstrations and clowns, life-size chess, face painting and carnival games for the children.

Street Clean up:  Work with MNjcc maintenance team in cleaning up the street, loading garbage bags onto golf cart and deliver to dump behind 509 Bloor W.

Assist MNJCC Children’s Area with Carnival Games, Face Painting, Clowns, Arts and Crafts, Live Chess and Bouncy Castle.  Attend to the children and ensure their safety.

10. 7th Annual One Family Fund Gidion Ride

Location: The ride starts and ends at the Lemonville Community Centre parking lot, located at 13453 McCowan Road, Stouffville, Ontario.

Time: Two shifts have been created for volunteers. The first one is 7:30am-11am and the second is 11am-2:30pm. However, we would be happy for the volunteers to stay for the duration of the event (7:30am-2:30pm)

One Family Fund is at the forefront of providing much-needed financial, legal and emotional support to victims of terror and their families in Israel. We are seeking the help of energetic, fun, and outgoing volunteers for the day of our event. We need the help for a variety of tasks, such as: the set-up and take down; signage distribution; running the refreshment stands; cheering on the bikers as they complete the ride, etc. There will be a DJ, food, silent auction, and MANY good times. We really hope to see YOU there!

11. Second Harvest's Toronto Taste

Location: Royal Ontario Museum (corner of Bloor St. W. & Queens Park).

Time: 7am to 11am

Second Harvest's Toronto Taste is the premier culinary event of the year. While guests indulge in extraordinary cuisine and fine wine on Sunday, June 12th, they will also help Second Harvest raise enough money to feed over 500,000 hungry people in our city. How is this possible? With the help of over 350 volunteers! Table set-up for chef and beverage stations. Signage set-up and placement.  Chef and beverage services (check-in, delivery of ice & supplies, etc). Food and drinks will be provided for volunteers throughout the day.
